Legislation:

Legislation CASHE is currently working on for you

• Supports the federal legislation which would amend the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) to include health education and physical education as core subjects.
• Actively opposes cuts to the CDC’s Division of Adolescent and School Health (DASH)

Past legislation CASHE has worked on and supported for you

• Advocate for a health education requirement in California
• Encourage school districts to maintain their current health education course requirements by recognizing them with City Proclamations
• Testified at School Board Meetings regarding the importance of school health education
• Supported and worked towards legislation that enacted California’s Health Education Standards
• Cosponsored the statewide health framework conferences
• Actively supported the California Smoke-Free Workplace Act (LC 6404.5) through press conferences, letters, phone calls, and testifying

Some other ways we have promoted and supported health education:

• Participated in the development of the California Content Standards for California Public Schools by serving on the California Health Education Standards Advisory Panel
• Participated in the development of the California Health Instruction Framework for California Public Schools by serving on the Curriculum Framework Criteria Committee
• Provided funds for teachers and students to attend conferences
• Conducted tobacco sting operations in cooperation with the American Lung Association and the American Cancer Society
• Held numerous press conferences to promote health education
• Advocated for the removal of unhealthy foods/beverages from school vending machines which lead to Education Code 49430-49436

Meetings:

• The CASHE Board of Directors meets on the 3rd Saturday of each month. All CASHE Members are invited to attend. Detailed meeting information is posted on the Event Calendar.
