Don’t Breathe The Air…

DEDICATED TO THE KIDS IN WILMINGTON, PORTER RANCH AND EAST LOS ANGELES AREAS – DON’T BREATH THE AIR…

With all the environmental problems taking place in the Southland CASHE thought it was time to have a few resource items you can used PLUS a quick reivew of the “Health Education Content Standards for California Public Schools”.

Environment

So what are you supposed to teach about the environment in class according to the State Standards? A FEW of the “objectives” from the the Department of Education are:

  1. Analyze how environmental conditions affect personal and community health.
  2. Access valid information about personal health products and services available in the community.
  3. Evaluate current research about the health consequences of poor environmental conditions.
  4. Identify government community agencies that promote health and protect the environment.
  5. Analyze environmental barriers to adopting positive personal health practices and stategies for overcoming the barriers.
  6. Support personal or consumer health issues that promote community wellness.
  7. Encourage societal and environmental conditions that benefit health.

Recycle

But where can one find a good solid RESOURCE agency? One of the groups leading the charge in Los Angeles County (and Northern California) is Communities for a Better Environment (CBE).

Temperature

The Oscars are around the corner and so are some “old” flicks that one could show parts of, in class such as: Silent Running, China Syndrome, Erin Brokovich, to name a few.
